  2. “Net anthropogenic nitrogen inputs”, or NANI does not include sewage or animal wastes because these are simply flows of N that originate from other sources already included in NANI.

  3. That which came together will fall apart imperceptibly slowly, and I will forget, but he will forgive my forgetting, just as I forgave him for forgetting me

  4. Relationships are best measured by farting.

    The stages of a relationship can be defined by farting. Stage one is the conspiracy of silence. This is a fantasy period where both parties pretend that they have no bodily waste. This illusion is very quickly shattered by that first shy, “Ooh, did you fart,” followed by the sheepish admission of truth. This heralds a period of deeper intimacy. A period I like to call the “Fart Honeymoon”, where both parties find each other’s gas just the cutest thing in the world. But, of course, no honeymoon can last forever. And so we reach the critical fork in the fart. Either the fart loses its power to amuse and embarrass thereby signifying true love, or else it begins to annoy and disgust, thereby symbolizing all that is blocked and rancid in the formerly beloved. Do you see what I’m getting at?

  5. You can’t navigate me. I may do mean things, and I may hurt you, and I may run away without your permission, and you may hate me forever, and I know that scares the living shit outta you ‘cause you know I’m the only real thing you got.

  6. If we never see each other again… And you’re out walking one day and you feel a certain presence beside you… that will be me, loving you, wherever I am.

  7. Contratiempo

    Vaya por Dios, que tonta estoy,
    se me ha vuelto a escapar,
    el alma por la puerta.

    Podría ser que he vuelto a ver,
    quizá fue sin querer;
    aquellas cartas viejas.

    Vaya por Dios, que tonta estoy,
    se me ha vuelto a llenar,
    el corazón de lluvia..

    Podría ser que he vuelto a ver,
    quizá fue sin querer,
    aquellas fotos tuyas.

    Y cae la tarde,
    y dan ganas de llamarte.

    La soledad es una estación,
    de madrugada.
    Un beso al viento,
    una canción desesperada.

    No sé si fue una buena idea,
    el decir adiós;
    y es que uno no es bastante.

    Ir a mirar desde el balcón,
    como se esconde el sol;
    ya no es, lo mismo que antes.

    Por mucho que intento,
    no recuerdo tus defectos.

    Y a contra luz, me rindo al temblor
    de tus deseos.
    Y la humedad impone su ley,
    a contratiempo.

  8. “Some people don’t understand the promises they’re making when they make them,” I said.

    “Right, of course. But you keep the promise anyway. That’s what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway.”
    ― John GreenThe Fault in Our Stars

  9. He was gone, and I did not have time to tell him what I had just now realized: that I forgave him, and that I forgave us, and that we had to forgive to survive in the labyrinth. There were so many of us who would have to live with things done and things left undone that day. Things that did not go right, things that seemed okay at the time because we could not see the future. If only we could see the endless string of consequences that result from our smallest actions. But we can’t know better until knowing better is useless. And as I walked back, I saw that I would never know. I would never know him well enough to know his thoughts in those last minutes, would never know if he left me on purpose. But the not-knowing would not keep me from caring.
